Importing a car from the Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland

If you import a vehicle from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland, you are required to pay VRT.

Some vehicles imported from Northern Ireland will also be required to clear customs. If the vehicle needs to clear customs then you will also be required to pay customs duty and VAT.
